At the Heart of Our Professions

Portrait of of Sylvie, a summer job student in the Personnel Department

With only a few weeks to go before obtaining her high school diploma, Sylvie is already familiar with the world of Dussmann. After completing two internships within the company, in environments that were both different and complementary, she decided to continue the experience by joining the team for a summer job.

Her first internship took her to our warehouse, where she discovered a particularly operational working environment. Her second, in the Personnel Department, gave her the opportunity to become familiar with a more administrative environment. Two different experiences, but with one thing in common: supportive guidance and teams who were happy to share their knowledge and experience with her.

My experiences at Dussmann have allowed me to gain first-hand insight into the professional world, improve my communication skills and become more confident in my interactions with others.

It was this positive first professional experience that made her want to come back. “I was really well supported and guided,” she explains. The trust placed in her also allowed her to develop her skills, particularly in communication and interpersonal relations, while gradually gaining confidence.

Throughout her experiences at Dussmann, Sylvie also discovered everything that lies behind tasks that may appear simple at first glance. Archiving is a good example. Now largely digitized, it relies on precise organisation, and Sylvie had the opportunity to discover how it works behind the scenes. She particularly appreciated this experience, which helped her better understand the importance of every step in the smooth running of a company.

But beyond the tasks themselves, it was also the company culture that made a lasting impression on her.

She particularly appreciates the courtesy and mutual respect that define interactions between colleagues—qualities she quickly noticed and considers a genuine strength of the working environment.

For Sylvie, her experience at Dussmann therefore represents much more than simply a first step into the professional world. It has helped her gain confidence, discover different facets of the company and develop the first professional skills that will be valuable throughout the rest of her career.

In the autumn, Sylvie will begin a BTS in Accounting and Management. If this new stage confirms her interest in the field and her results allow her to do so, she is already considering continuing her studies up to a Master’s degree. But before that, it is time for a well-deserved holiday to enjoy the summer.

When Sylvie looks back on her experience at Dussmann, three words naturally come to mind: politeness, professionalism and team spirit. Three values that sum up an enriching experience full of discoveries – and perhaps mark the beginning of a long professional journey.
